Gardai seized thousands of cigarettes after stopping a van for not having tax in Laois.
The van was stopped as the tax was over a year and a half out of date. Gardai then found 30,000 cigarettes and later discovered the van had two bald tyres and was running on green diesel.
“Laois Roads Policing Unit out and about last night stopped a van driver as their tax on the vehicle was out 570 days. The front two tyres were also bald,” Gardai said.
“The van was searched and 30,000 cigarettes were discovered. Both van and cigarettes were seized. Customs have since inspected the van which was found to be full of agricultural diesel,” Gardai said.
Gardai say a number of prosecutions will follow the traffic stop.
