St Fergal's College in Rathdowney had its doors open on August 25 for its 2021-2023 Leaving Cert and Leaving Cert Applied students.
Many of them gathered with parents and teachers to celebrate their results in what was described as a homely welcome with tea and coffee as everyone chatted comfortably.
Principal Gerry Quinn spoke about the outcome this year.
"We are very happy with the results, most of which were even better than expected. While it was a small year group, many of them achieved 400 CAO points or more. Importantly, as teachers talked with their former students it became clear that most were very hopeful of securing their chosen career path.
"Overall, there were lots of smiles, thanks given to teachers and congratulations for those who had done so well," he said.
William McClean, from Errill, was among the top points scorers. He is interested in Computer Science.
Mia Fahy is from Borris-in-Ossory also scored highly. She is interested in Biomedical Science.
St Fergal's is part of the Laois Offaly Education and Training Board network of schools.
