Order of Malta operating three life saving schemes

Schemes operating in Portlaoise, The Heath and Mountmellick

The Portlaoise unit of the Order of Malta Ireland Ambulance Corps have announced that they are now operating three Community Response Schemes locally.

The schemes are up and running in Portlaoise, Mountmellick and The Heath areas.

Under the scheme members of the unit will be activated by NEOC (National Emergency Operation Control) to attend Cardiac Arrest, Chest Pain and Choking calls in a predetermined area. They will provide lifesaving skills in advance of the arrival of the National Ambulance Service, Officer in charge Marie Carroll explained.

“All members will operate on a voluntary basis. Our schemes will work closely with our colleagues in the National Ambulance Service, Laois Fire and Rescue Service and the wider community First Responder network,” she added.
