A Laois Joint Policing Committee meeting was told an illegal dumper should be convicted and named and shamed.
Public Participation Network member Tom Jones told the latest meeting that a suspect has been identified in relation to the dumping of tiles at the Rock of Dunamase.
“Dumping out at The Rock of Dunamase, a heritage and tourist area. A load of tiles dumped out there,” he told the meeting.
“We established who the culprit was, where he was living,” Mr Jones claimed.
“It is an eyesore, we don’t need it. We have people out there collecting rubbish on a week to week basis,” he said.
“A fine on the spot I would suggest isn’t good enough. He should be brought to court, he should be convicted if at all possible and named and shamed,” said Mr Jones.
Cllr Aisling Moran said she fully agreed with Mr Jones.
The members were told that the council did not yet have an update on the investigation into the matter.
“A fine on the spot isn’t good enough,” insisted Mr Jones.
He said if the individual is convicted and named it would act as a deterrent for other would-be illegal dumpers.
