Laois Gardai issue appeal on weather and traffic ahead of the National Ploughing Championships

Record crowd attend first National and World Ploughing Championship organising meeting in Laois

Garda issued some advice as Laois prepares to welcome over a quarter of a million visitors for the three days of the National Ploughing Championships next week.

The recent inclement weather didn’t go unnoticed by local law enforcement as they issued some advice in relation to the event.

“Portlaoise Garda are appealing for information regarding the disappearance of the sunshine and dry weather. Any information that can assist is welcome. We need it back,” they joked in an online post.

“In the meantime please read the following information. As part of the Traffic Management Plan for National Ploughing Championships at Ratheniska, Co. Laois , Gardai are requesting all road users to avoid the N80 at Stradbally and all approach roads to Ratheniska village from Tuesday 19th of September at 6am to Thursday 21st of September at 8pm.  Gardai are urging road users to avail of alternative routes during these times,” they stated.

“The assistance of all road users is required to allow Traffic to move freely to and from the event during these times,” they said.

Meanwhile, the National Ploughing Championship site at Ratheniska didn't appear to have escaped the recent downfalls.

Dairy Robot Farmer Carlow posted images on X, which was formerly Twitter, showing some wet conditions at the site on Friday.
