Access point to Hanlons Kitchens, Ballacolla
An award-winning Laois business needs Laois council’s help with flooding and potholes from Laois County Council, councillors have insisted.
Cllr James Kelly, Independent, made the appeal supported by colleagues at a recent meeting with officials in County Hall Portlaoise.
He tabled a motion calling on the local authority to carry out remedial works at Hanlon Kitchens at Corraun near Ballacolla to prevent flooding on the site due to bouts of heavy rainfall.
Saying the company had won a Laois Enterprise award, he said the road in front of the premises is causing problems for the company is too high and resurfaced.
“All the rainwater is going into the site (of the business) and is creating a lot of concern and issues,” he said.
He said the business must be protected from the elements while it is also important that visitors to the premises are in good order.
“It is not good when the lane into it is full of potholes,” he said.
Cllr Ollie Clooney, Independent, was also supportive describing the Hanlons as a great family business. “To have water running is not ideal,” he said.
Cllr John King, Fine Gael, was also in favour of repairs.
Edmond Kenny, Senior Executive Engineer, Roads Section, replied in writing. “The drainage issue will be inspected and necessary measures taken as required,” he said.
The issue was raised at the Borris-in-Ossory Moutmellick Municipal District meeting.
