Laois students get a taste of third level at Portlaoise Institute

Scoil Chríost Rí and Portlaoise College visit Further Education and Training Awareness week

Portlaoise Institute has held its first annual Further Education and Training Awareness week for local Laois students.

The week raised awareness and enthusiasm for Laois further education opportunities, among 150 Transition Year students from Scoil Chríost Rí and Portlaoise College.

Workshops in Computer Science, Beauty Therapy, Healthcare, and Sport and Fitness were held to showcase the many educational pathways available at Portlaoise Institute.

Portlaoise Institute Principal Keith McClearn addressed the students, highlighting the myriad benefits of pursuing further education courses.

Emphasising the practical skills, personal development, and career advancement opportunities that further education can provide, encouraging students to consider this path for their future endeavours. As a token of appreciation for their participation, all Transition Year students received a certification of participation, recognising their engagement and enthusiasm
throughout the event.

Teachers got a taste of their offerings too at Portlaoise Institute.

A tasty Lunch and Learn event welcomed 11 Career Guidance teachers from secondary schools all around Laois.

This session gave them a chance to explore the educational offerings of Portlaoise Institute, discuss emerging trends in further education, and share insights on guiding students towards fulfilling career paths.

The insititute also launched its new prospectus for the 2024-25 academic year.

The prospectus showcases the diverse range of courses and opportunities available at Portlaoise Institute.

A coffee morning rounded off the week, providing attendees with an informal setting to discuss the flexible learning options at Portlaoise Institute.

"We are delighted with the success of our inaugural Further Education and Training Awareness Event.

This event not only provided students with a glimpse into the exciting possibilities that further education offers but also facilitated valuable discussions among teachers, students, and the wider community," he said.
