€13.6m has been allocated for Laois' local and regional roads.
Laois' regional and local road network is set to get an injection of €13.6 million in funding following a government announcement today.
This investment will fund the repairing, strengthening and maintenance of the county's roads and ensure they are fit for purpose.
Under the Road Safety Improvement Works, funding has been allocated for works at Tinnahinch, Rosenallis; Clonard, Mountrath; Derrydavy, Mountmellick; Lea Road, Portarlington; Crookedwood Cross, Abbeyleix and Cuddagh Cross.
Green Party Senator Pauline O’Reilly said Laois will benefit from the fund which includes €423,000 for climate adaptation projects which will help future-proof our roads. She went on to say “investing in our roads structure is essential for connecting villages and towns along with supporting communities and businesses across Laois. Overall safety of our roads is paramount. This funding will go a long way to making the roads of Laois safer for all”.
Welcoming the funding Sean Fleming TD, Minister of State, said: "Maintaining and improving Laois roads is crucial to our local communities across Laois. These roads are also vital for families and children going to work and school safely."
Nationally an investment programme of €658 million for regional and local roads across the country was announced today by Minister for Transport Eamon Ryan T.D., and Minister of State Jack Chambers T.D.
