Leinster Express / Laois Live is delighted to announce the appointment of Laura McLoughlin as its new managing editor.

A native of County Kildare, Laura has a wealth of experience working in regional newspapers and most recently served as editor of the Donegal News.

She will become the first woman to hold the position of editor in the 193 year history of the paper.

"It is a huge privilege to be appointed managing editor of one of the longest established regional newspapers in Ireland," said Laura.

"To be the first woman to hold this position is an honour and I am very excited to take on this challenge.

"The Leinster Express has such a strong tradition in the county and I am really looking forward to leading this talented newsroom in the next chapter for the publication.

"I'm a Kildare native but I have strong family ties to Laois. My mother, Carmel McLoughlin née O'Keeffe, is from Stradbally. I spent a lot of time there growing up and some of my fondest childhood memories are summers spent in Laois.

"My grandparents would have been avid readers of the Leinster Express so this appointment is extra special."
Laura has a Bachelor's Degree in English and History from Maynooth University and a Masters in Journalism from Dublin City University.

It was while she was studying at Maynooth that she decided to pursue a career in journalism after a stint of work experience in the Leinster Leader.

"I'm passionate about local journalism and the importance of quality and trustworthy content both in print and online," said Laura.

"Local newspapers are at the heart of communities right across the country and play an important role in telling the stories that matter.

"The media industry has changed greatly in recent years but what hasn't changed is the need for quality news and that is what we will continue to deliver for all of our readers."

Welcoming the appointment, Editorial Director of the group Brian Keyes, a former sports editor and editor of 'The Leinster' said: "It's a new chapter for the Leinster Express with the appointment of Laura, who brings a wealth of experience and enthusiasm to the role.

“I wish her the very best, the Leinster Express is a key title in Iconic Media and Laura leads a very capable and talented team."
