Laois council is set to take steps at a Ballylinan estate to improve safe road access for residents.

Cllr Padraig Fleming, Fianna Fáil, tabled a motion at a recent meeting calling on Laois County Council to modify the entrance at Leylandi Drive to improve the traffic flow in/out of the estate.

He said he had met with the residents' committee who had proposed solutions on what is a ‘very twisty’ road into the estate.

Mr Philip McVeigh, Senior Executive Engineer, replied in writing.

“Laois County Council has inspected the entrance into the estate and, subject to the approval of the resident’s association, could install a lay-by area on the left-hand side of the approach road into the estate,” he said.

Cllr Fleming said the proposal would make the estate a lot safer and be accepted.

He was backed by Cllr Aisling Moran who said there had been serious issues.

The issue was raised at the Portarlington Graiguecullen Municipal District meeting held in Portlaoise recently.
