Portlaoise GAA Club have announced the full programme of events which will take place on Easter Sunday, March 31 in memory of David Brown, who passed away on Easter Sunday in 2023.
The talented Laois player died in a tragic quad bike accident on Easter Sunday April 9, 2023, aged just 15, to the deep grief of his family, club, friends, schoolmates and wider community.
From 11am to 1pm, there'll be several exhibition matches between teams from within the club. The Laois and Portlaoise teams which David would have been apart of will also face off against each other in memory of their teammate. The Portlaoise Ladies Football teams will also feature with the Junior team playing the Minor side.
The centrepiece of day will be the official opening of the club's new walking track from 1pm to 2pm. The club say that it is a community event and not just confined to Portlaoise GAA. The community will then walk as a as a whole around the track in memory of David and in support of the Brown family.
Portlaoise GAA Chairperson Eamon Fennelly had this to say about the event, "There will be a big crowd on the day because of the profound impact this tragedy had, but also because of the popularity of the Brown family in Portlaoise and Laois.
