There will be a big focus on funding for playgrounds.
Community groups and sporting organisations are being encouraged to apply for a new tranche of funding announced by the Government on Friday.
Laois community and sports clubs and organisations can apply for grants of up to €50,000 under the 2024 CLÁR programme. €8.7 million has been allocated to this scheme for projects nationwide.
Welcoming the announcement Sean Fleming, Minister of State TD, said: "Part of this funding will be made available for Laois groups to apply for, to renovate community centres, parish halls, GAA clubhouses and spectator stands, youth facilities and more.
"There will be a big focus on funding for playgrounds, sensory gardens, walking tracks and community allotments.
"The scheme has also been extended to cover the purchase of vehicles for Meals on Wheels.
"This is welcome news for Laois communities. This funding will ensure that our local areas are improved on and are made better places to live, work and visit.
"I encourage Laois clubs and organisations to apply for this Government funding."
