Work begins on new all weather pitch for Laois school

Portlaoise College is abuzz with anticipation as the commencement of works on its new astroturf pitch got underway. 

The state-of-the-art facility promises to enhance curricular and extracurricular activities, providing a dynamic space for students to develop their skills and hone their sporting talents. The pitch will enable the further development of its dynamic PE Department with the all-weather pitch available year-round. 

The project, entrusted to McSweeney Sports, a reputable Limerick-based company renowned for its expertise in sports infrastructure, underscores Portlaoise College's commitment to providing top-notch facilities for its students. 

With a reputation for delivering high-quality results, McSweeney Sports is poised to bring the vision of the new astroturf pitch to life. It follows a significant period of fundraising by the school. The journey towards the exciting development has now begun with local contractor, Joe Bergin and Son from Ballacolla, whose expertise in completing all the ground works has laid the foundation for what promises to be a transformative addition to the school. 

The benefits of the new astroturf pitch extend beyond the school grounds, with Clonad GAA set to reap the rewards of this collaboration. The partnership between Portlaoise College and Clonad GAA reflects a shared commitment to promoting sports and fostering community spirit. 

Principal Noel Daly expressed his delight at the commencement of works, highlighting the positive impact the astroturf pitch will have on the school community.
