Five Laois Garda Stations undergoing upgrades and renovation works

Refurbishment works and Universal Access works are underway at Arles Garda Station with an expected completion date before the end of June this year.

Five Garda Stations in Laois are undergoing upgrades and renovation works with each project valued in excess of €200,000.

The projects include the refurbishment, renovation and expansion of the current Garda Station in Portlaoise which is at the tender stage with an expected completion date of between July and September 2027.

Refurbishment works and Universal Access works are underway at Arles Garda Station with an expected completion date before the end of June this year.

A cell upgrade at Abbeyleix Garda Station will take place and is expected to be completed by the end of September.

Universal Access Works are to be undertaken at Mountmellick Garda Station and Stradbally Garda Station which are both expected to be completed in the third quarter of the year.

The information was supplied to independent TD Carol Nolan by the Minister for Public Expenditure; National Development Plan Delivery and Reform, Paschal Donohoe.

Deputy Nolan engaged with the minister as part of her efforts to ensure the provision of greater operational hours in existing Garda stations within the constituency.

“I would also highlight that the refurbishment, renovation and expansion of current Garda Station and associated projects in Portlaoise is still not due for completion before 2027,"  said Deputy Nolan.

“I continue to engage with the Minister, the OPW and indeed the Minister for Justice because it is my clear view that we need a much stronger Garda presence and an increase in the operational hours of our Garda stations."
