Laois road safety works and pothole repairs detailed at meeting

Works to improve road safety were carried out across the Portarlington Graiguecullen Municipal District last month. 

Senior Executive Engineer with Laois County Council, Philip McVeigh, detailed the work which had been carried out in the area during a recent meeting. 

He said safety improvement works at the R424/R420 junction on the Lea Road in Portarlington were now substantially complete. A new speed ramp was installed at Emo National School and repairs were carried out to the existing ramp and road surface. 

Speed ramps were also installed on the R430 at Newtown and on the L7875 at Doonane. 

Pothole repairs were carried out at Luggacurran, Grange, Orchard, Fossy Upper, Scotland, Ballyhide,  Mullins Lane and Rossmore, he said. 

Passing bays were installed at Ballintubbert, Kellyville and Ballyadams and bollards were installed at the Imleach Estate in The Swan. New pedestrian warning signs and bollards were put in place at Rossmore and new Cycle Signs were put in place on the R429 Coolanagh-Killeen. 

Mr McVeigh outlined a range of other works such as power washing, bridge repair, litter picking and drain repair which was carried out across the Municipal District last month. 

Details of the work were read out at the May monthly meeting of Portarlington Graiguecullen Municipal District.
