Laois Gardaí say disqualified driver was travelling 160kph on motorway

Laois Gardaí arrested a driver who they say was disqualified and was travelling at a speed of 160kph on the M7 motorway.

"Laois Roads Policing Unit conducting a speed check on the M7 yesterday evening detected this vehicle travelling at 160kph. The driver was arrested after giving false details to Gardaí and was also discovered to be Disqualified from driving. The vehicle was seized and the driver charged to appear before Portlaoise District Court," said a garda spokesperson.

It comes after Laois Roads Policing Unit stopped another vehicle speeding at 82kph in a 50kph zone over the weekend.

In this case they say: "Laois Roads Policing Unit on patrols stopped this VW Jetta speeding at 82kph in a 50kph zone. The window tints on the vehicle were well below the legal limits when measured. A fixed charge notice was issued and the tints were removed at the roadside by the driver. A Ford Focus was also seized when our ANPR alerted that it was uninsured."
