Over 50 Laois clubs and organisations applied for government funding under the latest Sports Capital Grant scheme.
That's according to Minister of State Sean Fleming who has been in contact with the Minister for Sport, Thomas Byrne TD, about the applications.
"Following my discussions with Minister for Sport, Thomas Byrne TD, Laois clubs and organisations will receive funding, if everything is in order with their applications, under the Sports Capital Grant scheme," said Minister Fleming.
"It should mean positive allocation decisions for all valid applications under the current programme. There were over 50 Laois applicants for capital projects and capital and equipment projects under this scheme.
"This is good news for all of the Laois clubs and organisations who have applied for funding under this scheme. The funding will help them to develop these local facilities for the local community.
"After speaking with the Minister, I am glad that we can now guarantee that the Laois groups that applied, and their applications are valid and all in order, will receive funding to develop their facilities.
"The official announcement of what each individual Laois group will receive in funding will be made at a later date."
Meanwhile Minister for Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media, Catherine Martin T.D., has today announced at least €250m in funding under the latest round of the Sports Capital and Equipment Programme.
Speaking at the announcement Green Party Senator and MEP candidate Pauline O’Reilly said she is delighted with the announcement.
“Funding this year is a 50% increase on funding allocated in 2022 and 2020. This is very welcome news and shows our commitment to the development of sports clubs across Midlands Northwest. With such an increase in funding it is safe to say that the majority of those who applied will be allocated funding”.
