Laois Local Election Q & A: 'Commitment to the local community'

Declan Good, Fianna Fáil shares his priorities ahead of polling day on June 7

Laois Local Election Q & A: 'Fresh thinking and new ideas needed'

Declan Good, Fianna Fáil

What are your priorities?

My priority is to be a voice for the people of Clonaslee and The Greater Slieve Bloom area. My priorities would include tackling local problems such as road surfacing and repairs, housing, rural crime, and the protection of the elderly. The problem of local flooding during heavy rain periods is also a concern.

What is the biggest issue facing your area?

The biggest issue facing my area is the serious lack of car parking at our Health Centre. There are twelve parking spaces. These are mostly taken up by the dedicated healthcare staff. 400-500 patients attend weekly. Most have to park on the footpath on the main road. This is an unsatisfactory arrangement as persons are at risk of injury by passing traffic. There is land owned by the HSE beside the Health Centre, which could be used to increase car park space.
This would allow persons attending the centre to conduct their business in a safer manner.
There is also a need to extend the Centre for extra consultation rooms and a waiting room. I have consulted with staff and highlighted the issue with Minister of State, Mr Sean Fleming who has visited the Health Centre recently.

Why do you think you would make a good County Councillor?

I believe I would make a good County Councillor because of my deep-rooted commitment to our community and my extensive experience in public service. I have a proven track record of effectively advocating for residents' needs and implementing practical solutions. I am dedicated, approachable, and always ready to listen.

Declan Good is a candidate in the Borris-in-Ossory Mountmellick Municipal District. In the lead up to polling day on June 7 we will be featuring profiles on all 47 candidates vying for a seat on Laois County Council.
