A busy street in Portlaoise that follows on from Main Street will close for five days during working hours this coming week.

Laois County Council is closing Bridge Street, from the Well Road junction at Hume's Pub and the Leinster Express office, as far as the roundabout at St Peter and Paul's Church.

The busy road will be shut to traffic from Monday, July 22 until Friday, July 26, during working hours, from 8am to 6pm.

Traffic will be diverted right onto Well Road.

The council plans to resurface the road, which is still covered with the uneven concrete pavers that had to be controversially recovered with concrete on Main Street some years ago after they began lifting up causing trip hazards
