Stradbally Hall
A very different side of the Electric Picnic site will be on display this week as Stradbally Hall’s owner throws open the doors for Heritage Week.
Tours of the historic Stradbally Hall are being given as part of Heritage Week, which coincides with this year’s Electric Picnic and runs from August 17 to 25.
“Approached by a long drive that sweeps dramatically through ancient parkland studded with chestnuts and oaks, Stradbally Hall lies at the heart of an old-world demesne that has been home to the Cosby family since 1620,” according to the Heritage Council.
“The present house was built in 1772 but extensively renovated and enlarged in 1868 by Charles Lanyon, the architect behind Queen’s University, Belfast, and Castle Leslie. However, a large finely-decorated suite from the original Georgian house, comprising the dining room, saloon and drawing room, also remains and overlooks the formal gardens,” it states.
The tours take place daily from 9am to 1pm with the last tour being held at 12 noon. Visitors are advised to arrive ten minutes before the tour begins. Tours cost €10 for an adult and €5 for a child.
