A new art piece has been displayed in Timahoe, and locals are praising it's beauty and cultural meaning.
A wood carving of St Mochua carved by artist Evgeny Chubatyy is situated near the Timahoe Heritage Centre, with the sculpture angled to face the famous roundtower.
The piece was commissioned by the Stradbally, Vicarstown Timahoe (SVT) Activity and Wellness Hub, and supported by the Heritage Through Art scheme from Laois County Council.
The sculpture of St Mochua was carved from an old tree stump using a chainsaw and chisels.
It is rumoured that Timahoe takes its name from the foundation of the monastery of Teách Mochua by St. Mochua, who died in 657.
David Broderick, Creative Communities Engagement Officer with Laois County Council, praised Mr Chubatyy for his incredible work of art.
"This art installation is a huge addition to the visitor centre," said Mr Broderick.
"You can see through his work that Mr Chubatyy is so passionate about what he does, it's lovely. He worked on the piece for around four days, using a chainsaw and some chisels.

"He has a real talent, and as Laois' County Librarian Bernie Foran said, the county is lucky to have him," said Mr Broderick.
"I'm blown away by it- it's an amazing addition, and another fantastic layer of history," he finished.
