The Laois Model Aero Club (LMAC) held a very successful fundraiser for Portlaoise's Cuisle Centre on Sunday September 8.

The event took place in the club's flying site at Clondouglas.

The 'open fly-in' fundraiser for the Cuisle Centre saw over €1,240 raised, with over 40 radio controlled aircraft taking to the sky.

Attendees attest that there was a 'wonderful display of aerobatics' throughout the day.

"There were many types of aircraft, fixed wing power, gliders, helicopters, jets, and drones, all ranging in size," said Michael McEvoy, President of Model Aeronautics Council of Ireland.

"Model aircraft can be enjoyed by young and old and is a very rewarding sport to be involved in, both
physically and mentally," said Mr McEvoy.

Laois Model Aero Club is associated to the Model Aeronautics Council of Ireland (MACI.ie) who in turn is affiliated to the Irish Aviation Authority whom controls all aeronautical sport nationally.

On joining LMAC, insurance is automatically provided by MACI.

The Laois Model Aero Club was established 40 years ago by the late Philip Meagher, a local solicitor and keen aircraft enthusiast.

Along with flying model aircraft, Mr Meagher was known to fly full size aircraft also.

Through discussions with Bord Na Móna, the club secured what they hail 'one of the best flying sites in the country'.

At a modest rent, the club is 'extremely grateful' for this site.

"New members are always welcome to join the club," Mr McEvoy said.

"Training will be given to new members on one the club’s aircrafts for those wishing to take up the sport," he finished.
