Portlaoise pool temporarily closed to public

Portlaoise swimming pool has been closed to the public due to ventilation issues.

The leisure centre is awaiting more information from a contract repair crew before a reopening time can be expected.

The ventilation system in the pool area failed earlier this week, forcing the pool to close its doors.

"We don't have a confirmed timeline just yet but have contractors due on site tomorrow and we are optimistic for a speedy resolution and will provide updates as soon as possible," Laois Leisure announced.

"We apologise for this inconvenience and look forward to seeing you all happily enjoying the pool again in the coming days. In the meantime, our Laois Leisure Portarlington site remains fully operational."
While the pool area is currently closed to the public, the leisure centre gym and pitches are fully open and available for use.
On Wednesday September 25, the Government announced a whopping €6.2 million grant for Laois clubs and organisations, under the Sports Capital and Equipment Grant scheme.
Laois County Council have been allocated €216,278 to replace the moveable floor in Portlaoise's swimming pool, and for associated accessibility works.
