The main road to the busy commuter train station in Portlaoise is closing temporarily for road works.

Laois County Council has given notice that Station Road will be closed for two days, on Tuesday and Wednesday, October 8 and 9 during the day.

Close to 1,000 Portlaoise Irish Rail commuters head to Dublin daily, but most can avoid the road closure, because it will not start until 9.20am each day.  The station is also accessible from the Mountmellick side of the track, and from Portlaoise Main Street via Railway Street.

Station Road will be closed off from the Junction with N80 Coote Street, to Portlaoise Train Station, each day from 9.20am until 8pm.

The purpose is road resurfacing works.
