Laois Sinn Fein councillor Caroline Dwane Stanley is reported to be on a list of local politicans to have been confirmed for select roles in the EU.
RTE has reported that the Portlaoise concillor, who is wife of the former Sinn Fein TD Brian Stanley, is on a list of public representatives nominated to the EU Committee of the Regions.
The Government is set to have approved the list which included the Sinn Fein nomination who was Cllr Dwane Stanley.
The Irish delegation to the Committee is currently composed of nine full members and nine alternate members representing local authorities across Ireland.
Sinn Fein told RTE that it had no comment.
Cllr Dwane Stanley has made no announcement on her future in Sinn Fein. Her husband has said he will make no further comment on the controversy which led to his resignation.
The Committee of the Regions e European Committee of the Regions is the European Union's (EU) assembly of local and regional representatives. Just over 300 politicians sit on the committee.
The European Commission and the Council of the European Union must consult the Committee whenever new proposals are made in areas that have repercussions at regional or local level.
