The members of Ballylinan ICA will gather this week to celebrate a milestone in the history of the guild which was co-founded in 1964 by one of Ireland’s most famous ICA members Anna May McHugh.
Members will gather on Friday, October 25 for an Ecumenical Service at 7.30 pm in St Anne's Church Ballylinan followed by dinner in hall at 8.15 pm.
Apart from being busy as the MD of the National Ploughing Association, Anna May remains an active member of the ICA in Ballylinan.
“We formed in 1964 and ever since then we always made ourselves available to carry out duties let it be refreshments for funerals, organising fashion shows, make and model competitions, taking part in ICA drama competitions and in more recent years involvement in the Passion Play making costumes, in charge of refreshments and stage crew.
“ICA worked closely with all the local organisations and organised breakfasts for Communion/Confirmation children for many years.
“Today, we are very active and while many of our members have passed away, we will continue to be proud of our guild and the community we live in,” said Ms McHugh.
The celebration event will feature music, song and spot prizes. Tickets are available from ICA members at €25.
