Man accused of possessing and distributing child pornography in Laois

The man appeared before Portlaoise District Court

A man appeared in court accused of possession and distribution of child abuse material. 

The man (35), who has a Laois address, is accused of possessing child pornography on January 20, 2022. He is further charged with distribution of child pornography on January 7, January 14, March 3 and November 16 in 2022. 

Garda Lisa Murray served a book of evidence on the accused at a sitting of Portlaoise District Court

Garda Sergeant JJ Kirby said the DPP had directed that the man be sent forward to the current sittings of Portlaoise Circuit Court. 

He said the book of evidence contained details of four counts of alleged production and distribution of child pornography and one count of possession of child pornography. 

Judge Susan Fay imposed reporting restrictions as she sent the defendant forward to the current sittings of Portlaoise Circuit Court. Solicitor Barry Fitzgerald was granted legal aid to include a junior and a senior counsel.
