Laois roads have become particularly dangerous due to current icy conditions.

Over five car accidents have been reported on Laois roads within the last 24 hours, with two accidents leading to reported injuries of passengers.

In Shanganagh More near Ballylynan, an accident occured at 3pm involving one vehicle with two occupants. One of the passengers was admitted to Tullamore Hospital.

A separate accident near Lought on the N80 is under investigation, where a male passenger sustained injuries.

An Gardaí Síochána are advising Laois road users to take due car while travelling this evening.

"Temperatures are below average, we would ask members of the public to take their time. Leave early and arrive safe," Sgt Anita Scully told the Leinster Express.

Similarly, the Road Safety Authority (RSA) has warned road users to prepare for hazardous conditions.
