Laois Offaly Gardaí are urging people to check in on vulnerable or elderly neighbours during this cold snap.
“If you have an elderly or vulnerable neighbour in your community we'd be grateful if you could drop in to make sure that they are staying safe and warm during this spell of freezing weather.
Please call us if you have any concern for them and in an emergency always dial 999/112,” gardaí stated.
Meanwhile, Laois appears to have escaped the worst of the snowfall which hit parts of of the country last night.
Low lying parts of Laois appear to have only had a light dusting of snow in places. There was some snowfall in the Slieve Bloom Mountains.
Met Eireann is predicting some sunny spells today but temperatures are expected to remain low at between one and four degrees.
Temperatures are expected to remain very cold tonight with widespread frost and ice across Leinster and a few well scattered wintry showers. Temperatures are expected to dip down to -4 degrees in parts of Leinster tonight.
According to Met Eireann, Friday will be mostly dry with daytime temperatures ranging from two to six degrees in Leinster.
