Rural polling stations appear to be busier than their urban counterparts so far

Voters are continuing to cast their ballots in the General Election but the anticipated evening voting rush has yet to arrive. 

A total of 114 polling stations opened at 7am this morning as Laois goes to the polls to decide which of the 12 candidates should take the three seats in the new constituency. A total of 65, 873 people are eligible to vote in the county.

As of 5pm today the turnout looked stronger in rural polling stations where around a third of votes have cast their ballots. 

Rural:

Parochial Hall Rathdowney Booth 1

-Total on Register: 663

Voted by 5pm – 197 ballot papers issued representing 29.7 percent of the vote.

 

Parochial Hall Rathdowney Booth 2

-Total on Register: 704

Voted by 5pm – 190 ballots papers issued representing 26.99 percent of the vote. 

 

Rosenallis Community Centre Booth 1

-Total on Register: 434

Voted by 5pm – 145 ballot papers issued representing 33.41 percent of eligible votes. 

 

Rosenallis Community Centre Booth 2 (

-Total on Register: 601

Voted by 5pm – 189 ballots papers issued representing 31.45 percent of the vote. 

 

The URBAN vote looked as follows. 

Holy Family Senior School Booth 11

-Total on Register: 655

Voted by 5pm – 88 ballot papers issued representing 13.44 percent of the vote

HFSS  Booth 12

-Total on Register: 607

Voted by 5pm – 145 ballot papers issued representing 23.89 percent of the vote.

 Knockmay NS Booth 1

-Total on Register: 665

Voted by 5pm – 203 ballot papers representing 30.53 percent of the vote. 

 

Knockmay NS Booth 2

-Total on Register: 638

Voted by 5pm – 159 ballot papers representing 24.92 percent of the vote.
