Rural voting continues to outpace urban voting in the Laois General Election

The latest turnout figures were recorded with just two hours of voting to go

Laois General Election voting underway in historic poll

It's now in the hands of voters.

Rural voting continues to outpace urban voting in the General Election in Laois, according to the latest figures. 

At 8pm with just two hours left to vote, one booth in Rosenallis Community Centre had  recorded 55 percent turnout. 

Elsewhere in rural Laois, Rathdowney Parochial Hall Booth 1 had a turnout of 47.6 percent. 

At the same time, Booth 11 at the Holy Family Senior School had a turnout of just 23.6 percent but knockmay NS Booth 1 had 43.3 percent turnout.  

A total of 114 polling stations opened this morning across Laois where 65,873 voters will decide which of the 12 candidates should take the three Dáil seats in the new constituency.

A sample of voting at 8pm looked as follows: 

RURAL

Parochial Hall Rathdowney Booth 1

-Total on Register: 663

Voted by 8pm – 316 ballot papers issued or 47.6 percent of votes. 

 Parochial Hall Rathdowney Booth 2

-Total on Register: 704

Voted by 8om - 282 ballot papers issued or 40 percent of votes. 

 

Rosenallis Community Centre Booth 1

-Total on Register: 434

Voted by 8pm - 240 ballot papers issued or 55.29 percent of votes

 

Rosenallis Community Centre Booth 2 

-Total on Register: 601

Voted by 8pm - 323 ballot papers issued or 53.7 percent of votes. 

 

URBAN

Holy Family Senior School Booth 11

-Total on Register: 655

Voted by 8pm - 155 ballot papers issued or 23.66 percent of votes. 

 

HFSS  Booth 12

-Total on Register: 607

Voted by 8pm - 226 ballot papers issued or 37.23 percent of votes. 

 

Knockmay NS Booth 1

-Total on Register: 665

Voted by 8pm - 288 ballot papers or 43.3 percent of votes. 

 

Knockmay NS Booth 2

-Total on Register: 638

Voted by 8pm - 241 ballot papers or 37.77  percent of eligible votes.
