Updates for Laois households affected by wheelie bin route cancellations

Many Laois households have not had their waste collected due to poor weather conditions

Updates for Laois households affected by wheelie bin route cancellations

Households across Laois have been left with overflowing bins due to cancellations of bin collection routes amid poor weather conditions.

Waste collection service providers across Laois have given updates on the resumption of services.

Ryan Brothers Environmental Services have told the Leinster Express / Laois Live that they hope to work throughout the weekend to catch up on missed waste collection routes.

“We have had no trucks out at all this week, we are in Thurles town and the roads are lethal,” a representative for Ryan Brothers said.

“Monday to Wednesday have been a write off this week, and we are playing it by ear for the remainder of the week. We are reassessing each evening whether we will operate the following day, and we will notify customers,” they explained.

“It looks like our workers will have to work over the weekend to catch up on the routes that have been missed.”

The waste management company usually have ten to twelve bin lorries out on the road each day.

“This week is our red week, which is for recycling, so it isn’t too bad. People are okay with having to hold on to their recycling for another few days, if it were the waste bins it would be a different issue.  People are ringing in, but they all understand the situation. They can see that it’s too lethal to send the drivers out,” the representative said.

“We hope that if there is an improvement on Thursday night, we will get back out on Friday. We are taking it day by day, a decision isn’t made until around 5pm or 6pm,” they said.

“Our customers are informed once the decision is made, and they will be texted a reschedule day for when we know we are getting to their area again,” Ryan Brothers finished.

Ray Whelan Waste Disposal have also issued a statement on the service interruptions.

“Due to severe weather conditions we are unable to complete collections in certain areas,” a spokesperson said.

“Apologies for any inconvenience. Please continue to leave your bins out and we will endeavor to complete collections as soon as possible. Thank you for understanding,” they finished.

Bord na Móna (AES recycling) have said that they hope to resume to normal working services soon.

“Due to the current adverse weather conditions in certain parts of the country, some collections may not go ahead as scheduled,” they said.

“Many roads and estates remain impassable in Nenagh, Tullamore, Portlaoise and Kildare areas.

We are closely monitoring the situation as the safety of our staff and the public is our top priority. We will update affected customers by text as soon as we have more information,” a service update said.

“We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to resume normal services as soon as possible.”

PANDA Recycling Services have asked customers to leave their bins out as usual, but cannot guarantee the collection of waste.

"It’s a snowy start to 2025! Due to the current adverse weather conditions some collections may not go ahead as scheduled," they said.

"Collection times will also vary due to difficult conditions. Affected customers for tomorrow have been contacted – we will attempt all other collections (so please put your bins out as normal) but we cannot guarantee collections as the safety of our crew is paramount! Stay safe & have some fun in the snow where possible," PANDA finished.
