'A most sincere gentleman' - Laois community heartbroken by sad passing of Crettyard man
Tributes have flooded in following the passing of Martin Brophy of Fairymount, Crettyard.
Martin passed away peacefully on Monday, 6 January surrounded by his loving family after a short illness.
Formerly of Gowran, County Kilkenny, Martin died only mere months after his wife Margaret in June of last year.
Martin was the father of Teresa, Carmel, Patrick and Martina, as well as an "adored grandfather" to five grandchildren.
The local community have taken to share their memories of Martin online as well as express their sympathies to his family.
On his RIP.ie notice, one person kindly wrote: "Martin was a great neighbour, always there when you needed him and will be sadly missed. May he rest in peace."
Another shared: "He was a most sincere gentleman. May his gentle soul rest in peace."
His absence will be widely felt across the community as people have been commenting on Martin's kindness and neighbourly spirit, with one person saying: "Another good person unfortunately gone from the parish. Rip Martin."
Others have shared their respect for Martin and his late wife Margaret, saying: "Such a beautiful couple - united now in spirit."
Evidently, Martin will be greatly missed.
Martin will be reposing in Carpenter’s Bros Funeral Home in Carlow from 3pm on Sunday, 12 January. Funeral mass will take place at St Abban's Church in Crettyard at 11am on Monday, 13 January, followed by burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.
