Trees down in Portlaoise during Storm Darragh.
Met Éireann has issued a severe orange warning for Laois ahead of the arrival of Storm Éowyn on Friday, January 24.
Gale force winds with damaging and destructive gusts of up to 130km/h are expected.
The forecaster is warning of fallen trees, damage to power lines and power outages, structural damage, very difficult travelling conditions, disruption and cancellations to transport and wave overtopping.
The orange warning will come into effect across the 26 counties from 2am on Friday morning and remain in place until 5pm on Friday. A yellow warning for wind for Northern Ireland has been issued by the Met Office.
Met Éireann said it is "continuously monitoring the evolving situation".
"On Thursday night and Friday, a deepening Low-Pressure system, Storm ÉOWYN (AY-OH-WIN), is forecast to track across Ireland. Very strong to gale force winds are expected across the country with the potential for damaging wind gusts and disruption in places. Transitory falls of sleet and snow are expected too, especially across west and northwest counties. High seas and spells of heavy rain are expected also," said the forecaster.
