Laois Gardaí have thanked the public for behaving responsibly during Storm Éowyn.

Gardaí said they are not aware of any major incidents having occurred during the storm which unleashed record breaking gusts of wind on the county. Gardaí said this was largely down to the fact that people listened to the warnings and took the advice onboard.

They reminded people that road conditions may still be hazardous and they urged people to continue to exercise caution.

Gardaí also asked people to check in on their elderly neighbours following the destructive storm.

“The public were very responsible and heeded the warnings,” a senior garda said.

He said while all of the major roads appear to be clear in Laois there remains a danger of damaged or dislodged trees or other items falling.

Gardaí noted that the council’s emergency number had now been stood down. They said people can contact them if they come across blocked roads.
