Laois Comhaltas Group scoop All Ireland title

A Laois Comhaltas group have secured an All Ireland Title in a Scoraíocht competition last weekend.

Camross Comhaltas' seniour group secured an All Ireland Title, with their junior group coming third place in a highly contested Plearacha competition on the Sunday.

The shows were a combination of music, song, dance, story telling and drama.

"The venue was the beautiful setting of Brú Boru under the rock of Cashel, and the competitions were a group format of up to 45 members," said Camross Comhaltas member Ms Mary Collier.

"The Senior success under the musical direction of Shona Nevin and producer Breda Culleton was particularly pleasing to win, as it brought back some former members who had not played with Camross or indeed anyone for many years," she said.

"There were strong individual performances from Conall Nevin, Laura Scott, Ciara Carroll, Katie Scully, Jane Doheny, Emma Conroy, Aedin and Caoimhe Lowry, and Pat Collier," she said.

Both shows were augmented with the amazing dancers from The Lynam School of Dance, and set dancers under the direction of Catherine Lalor.

The group beat off strong competition from Cork., Dublin and Wexford.

"On Sunday a very young group under the direction of Shona Nevin, Patricia Clarke and Caoimhe Lowry produced an amazing performance to compete with the best of music in the country from Galway, Cork and Wexford," Ms Collier said.

"The group put in some great individual pieces, with strong vocals from Laura Scott, Amy Quinlan, Adele Lynch, a story from the talented Jack Higgins, and a beautiful piece on the pipes from Tom Hudson," she said.

"The branch received so many accolades over the weekend for the performances. Given that the branch was able to put 40 members on stage on the Saturday, and then do the same on Sunday with a completely different group of 40, this is a testament to the hard work from by teachers, parents and older members," the representative finished.
