Laois Rose entrant Jessica Byrne couldn't be more Irish, teaching the native language and playing Gaelic since she was a child.

The Killeen woman told the Leinster Express / Laois Live all about herself, ahead of Laois Rose Selection Night this Good Friday.

"I’m 24 and from the countryside in Killeen, Co. Laois. I am a secondary school teacher of Irish and German, and I love what I do – especially helping students find their own grá for languages.

"I’ve played Gaelic football with my local club, St. Brigid’s, since I was young and have recently taken up camogie too.

"I love travelling, learning about different cultures, and meeting new people. I spent a year living in southern Germany, which was full of great memories, and I’ve spent many summers in Connemara – deepening my grá don Ghaeilge," Jessica said.

""Nothing makes me happier than catching up with my friends or spending time at home with my family and our dog, Cooper," Jessica added.

The Laois Rose Selection Night takes place in the Midlands Park Hotel, Portlaoise on Friday, April 18, when 17 entrants will be interviewed on stage by Ollie Turner, cheered on by their supporters in the audience. The winner will then be announced who will take part in the televised International Rose of Tralee in Kerry this August.

The Leinster Express / Laois Live is the proud Media Sponsor for the Laois Rose Selection.
