Portlaoise District Court

A woman appeared in court accused of making an unwarranted demand for money.

Julie Harty (40) of 64 Cosby Avenue, Fairgreen, Portlaoise, is accused of demanding money at an address in Carmody Way, Fairgreen, Portlaoise on July 15, 2024 and again on August 25, 2024.

Garda James Quinlan from Portlaoise Garda Station said the defendant replied “that’s not true” when charged. He said the DPP had directed summary disposal and he was not objecting to bail but he did want to impose some conditions.

He asked that the defendant have no contact directly or indirectly with the alleged injured party, that she stay away from Carmody Way, remain of sober habits and that she provide a phone number and be contactable at all times.

Judge Susan Fay granted legal aid. She agreed to impose the conditions and she remanded the defendant on bail to appear again before Portlaoise District Court on May 19.
