Paddock completed a memorable double on Thursday afternoon, May 15 as their boys team followed in the footsteps of their victorious camogie side to claim Roinn 3 Boys Shield honours, rounding off a glorious day for the school.

Their clinical finishing and ruthless eye for goal proved the key difference in a high-scoring final, as they overcame a spirited Clonaghadoo team.

Paddock 12-8

Clonaghadoo 2-8

Rian Nolan and Sam Kingston were outstanding in attack for Paddock, finishing with 9-7 between them, while Sean McEvoy was a constant menace for Clonaghadoo, scoring 2-7 of their 2-8 tally.

Clonaghadoo actually started brightly, with McEvoy splitting the posts twice from distance to give his side an early lead. But Paddock’s response was devastating. First, Finn Stewart and then Kingston found the net in quick succession. Jayden Smith pulled one back for Clonaghadoo, but Paddock hit a third goal soon after when Colm Thompson rifled one in from range.

Nolan added a point before netting himself, and Kingston followed with a quickfire 1-1 to give Paddock firm control. He then added another point before the break, leaving the score at 5-5 to 0-6 at half-time.

Nolan opened the second-half scoring, pushing Paddock’s lead out to 15 points. McEvoy, now at full-forward, tried to rally Clonaghadoo with two more scores. But any hopes of a comeback were dashed when Nolan sensationally scored from a sideline puck, and Kingston hammered the next puck-out straight to the net.

From there, Paddock continued to pile on the goals, with Nolan and Kingston both completing hat-tricks and more. Clonaghadoo kept battling and were rewarded with two late goals from McEvoy, but the outcome was beyond doubt.

It was a dominant, emphatic display from a talented Paddock team, and with silverware secured in both hurling and camogie, a day that will live long in school memory. TEAMS AND SCORERS BELOW PICTURE.
