Corey Doheny was to the fore as Scoil Bhríde Portlaoise were crowned Roinn 4 champions on Day One of the 2025 Cumann na mBunscol finals on Wednesday, May 14.
It was Doheny who almost opened the scoring, but Timahoe goalkeeper Jack Ramsbottom denied him. However, Richard Galvin O’Shea was on hand to flick the rebound into the net. Shane Miller got Timahoe off the mark with a score from a free before Doheny rattled in Scoil Bhríde’s first goal. He added a 45’ to his tally soon after.
Scoil Bhride Portlaoise 7-7
Timahoe 1-11
Shane Miller was immaculate on free-taking duties, pointing his second of the contest. Doheny then went on a great run before scoring Scoil Bhríde’s second goal to put two goals between the sides. Shane Miller (free) and Aidan Miller responded with a point apiece to reduce the gap. Doheny split the posts again to take his tally to 1-3.
Scoil Bhríde’s five-point lead was soon cut to two as Shane Miller raised a green flag for Timahoe. But Scoil Bhríde took control from there, firing 2-2 without reply to wrestle back the upper hand in this Roinn 4 final. Doheny scored a fine point from play before another excellent run saw the Scoil Bhríde number 4 grab his second goal of the game.
He completed his hat-trick moments later as Timahoe struggled to contain the in-form Doheny. Galvin O’Shea then added a point to go with his earlier goal. Shane Miller pointed another free to stem the tide, but it didn’t last long. Doheny and Aivo Kalnins added a goal each before half-time, giving Scoil Bhríde a healthy lead at the break: 6-5 to 1-5.
The second half began with both sides trading scores. Doheny pointed twice, while Shane Miller (free) and Ben Miller replied for Timahoe. Three more Timahoe frees followed, two from Shane Miller and one from Aidan Miller. However, there was still time for Scoil Bhríde to score a seventh goal, with Doheny raising his sixth green flag of the day. Substitute Ben Miller got the final score for Timahoe, but it was Scoil Bhríde who finished as worthy champions. TEAMS AND SCORERS BELOW PICTURE.
