Tillage farming issues will be on the agenda this week at a special Tillage Open Day in Laois organised by the Irish Grain Growers Group (IGGG).

The group, which represents arable farmers in the Midlands, South East and South of the country, has also invited Barry Cowen MEP to the event on the Miller Farm in Vicarstown for the IGGG Tillage proposals launch in relation to Government Policy for the sector.

The IGGG say Mr Cowen will be giving an update from Brussels on agri-related issues, including CAP.

The group told the Leinster Express / Laois Live that they have also invited Laois TDs to the event.

The crops walk will include: winter barley (Orcade ), winter oats ( Enya ), winter oilseed rape (Armada), Spring Barley (Planet). The host farm uses both min-till and plough-based methods.
