Portlaoise District Court
A woman admitted damaging a phone belonging to a woman who was attempting to film her.
Leanne Galvin(31) of 6 Greenview, Mountmellick Road, Portlaoise, admitted causing criminal damage to a phone at Greenview on April 6, 2024.
Garda Sergeant Jason Hughes told a sitting of Portlaoise District Court that the defendant was alleged to have caused €200 in damage to a phone. He said the damage occurred when the defendant took a phone out of the woman’s hand and threw it on the ground.
Solicitor Josephine Fitzpatrick said her client was pleading guilty to the offence. She explained that the woman had been in a relationship which had ended.
She said an argument broke out between the accused and her ex and the injured party began filming the incident on her phone and the defendant took offence. She said there had been no further incidents between the parties and her client had brought €200 to court.
Judge Andew Cody ordered that the €200 be given to the injured party. He then applied the Probation Act and granted legal aid.
