A new business has opened in Laois, offering cremation and memorials for pets.
Rainbow Bridge Pet Cremation has officially opened in Clonminam Business Park, where it will help guide beloved four-legged friends across the 'rainbow bridge'.
Following the publishing of a story written by Scottish woman Edna Clyne-Rekhy upon the death of her dog in 1959, pet owners often refer to a pet's 'transition to the afterlife' as 'crossing the rainbow bridge'.

Located across the road from Roll'n'Bowl, the business was opened by Portlaoise man Thomas Moore. The crematorium offers memorial options for pets, including keepsakes containing your beloved pets ashes, paw prints, scatter tubes, and urns.
There is a variety of jewellery that pet owners can opt for their pet's ashes to be stored in, along with keychains, photo boxes and even a statue.

The cost of cremation services depend on the weight of the pet, starting at €200. The business offers to return ashes to pet owners or their vet's practice within four working days.
"Unlike communal cremations where multiple pets are cremated together, the pet is cremated alone and the ashes are returned to the owner," the business shared.
Included in this price is a scatter tube and a framed pawprint of your pet, with extra costs applied for urns and keepsakes.
"Rainbow Bridge Pet Cremation was founded on a deep love for animals and a heartfelt understanding of the unbreakable bond between pets and their families," they shared.
"We know that saying goodbye is one of the most difficult moments a pet owner can face, and our mission is to provide compassionate, dignified, and respectful cremation services that honour the life and memory of every beloved companion.
"Guided by our core values of compassion, respect, and support, we strive to create a comforting space where pet owners can find solace in their time of loss.
"We believe that every pet’s journey deserves to be honoured with care, and we are committed to walking alongside you with empathy and understanding," the pet crematorium finished.
