Niall Corcoran, who had been part of the Laois senior hurling coaching team for 2025, has been confirmed as a selector and coach with the Kilkenny senior hurlers.

The Kilkenny County Board ratified the move this week, with Corcoran joining Derek Lyng’s management team alongside Michael Rice, Peter O’Donovan and Eddie Brennan. Lyng himself has also been reappointed on a two-year term.

It marks a reunion for Brennan and Corcoran, who worked together in Laois during a golden period in 2019. Brennan managed Laois to the Joe McDonagh Cup title, with Corcoran and Tommy Fitzgerald as his selectors and coaches. That summer saw Laois stun Dublin in the preliminary All-Ireland quarter-final in Portlaoise before bowing out to eventual champions Tipperary in the quarter-finals.

Corcoran had only recently returned to the Laois setup to link back up with Fitzgerald, who took over as manager in November 2024 following the resignation of Darren Gleeson due to a cancer diagnosis.

Laois' 2025 inter-county season ended in disappointment as they fell at the final hurdle in the Joe McDonagh Cup, losing out to Kildare in Croke Park. It was the second year in succession that Laois were beaten in the final, having lost to Offaly in 2024. Earlier in the year, they were relegated from Division 1B of the Allianz Hurling League after recording just one victory against fellow relegated side Westmeath.
