Rathdowney-Errill's PIHC quarter-final result set to go before Laois GAA’s CCC over timing error

Referee Patrick Phelan blew the full-time whistle with only 28 minutes played of the second-half

Rathdowney-Errill's Laois GAA PIHC quarter-final result under review after early whistle

Rathdowney-Errill defeated Colt-Shanahoe in last Friday evening’s Laois Shopping Centre Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship quarter-final at O’Keefe Park, but the result may not be final.

Referee Patrick Phelan blew the whistle in the 58th minute, with significant stoppages still to be played following an injury to Rathdowney-Errill’s Paddy Hassett and multiple substitutions.

Colt-Shanahoe have lodged an official objection, and Laois GAA’s Competitions Controls Committee is due to meet on Tuesday evening to determine whether the game will stand or be replayed.

Rathdowney-Errill led throughout, with Hassett scoring 2-8, including six frees, while Jacques Dowling added 0-5. Colt-Shanahoe’s Nathan Dunne (0-6, five frees) and James Keyes (0-5) kept them in touch, and Paudie McDonald’s goal briefly narrowed the gap. Hassett’s second goal late in the game effectively sealed the win.

The victory sets Rathdowney-Errill up for a semi-final clash with Mountmellick, joining Camross, who had secured their spot with a win over Clonaslee St Manman’s.

FINAL SCORE: Rathdowney-Errill 2-22, Colt-Shanahoe 1-15
