Damage has occurred to a canopy in the seating area of a retail square in a Laois town described as a "hidden gem".
One of the red sun canopies in Hynds Square Portlaoise, just off the Main Street, has been removed following damage.
However the good news is it is to be replaced shortly.
Labour Cllr Marie Tuohy asked for it to be fixed or replaced, in a motion she tabled to the September meeting of Portlaoise Municipal District.
Laois County Council district engineer Wes Wilkinson said that a new one is ordered and will be installed in mid October.
“Hynds Square is a hidden gem, the shade is important in fair weather, we have to keep it maintained,” Cllr Tuohy commented.

Cllr Tommy Mulligan seconded.
“It’s a popular recreation area. Thankfully we have new shops there,” he said.
Hynds Square is home to apartments and multiple shops and businesses.
