A driver escaped injury after their tractor went into the Grand Canal in Laois.
Laois Fire and Rescue Service put a boat in the water yesterday evening after the tractor entered the Grand Canal.
Thankfully nobody was hurt in the incident which occurred shortly before 7pm on Monday evening in the Vicarstown area.
“Our crews responded to an incident where a tractor had gone into the Grand Canal last night. Thankfully there were no injuries,” Laois County Fire and Rescue Service stated in an online post.
“The boat from Stradbally Fire Station was used along with the environmental protection unit from Portlaoise Fire Station to place oil booms in case of any fuel or oil leaks, fortunately no leaks occurred. Crews also assisted getting the lifting lines onto the tractor for recovery.
Laois County Fire and Rescue Service said the tractor has since been removed from the canal and they confirmed there was no environmental damage.
