Laois Gardaí say they discovered a “fancy dress fail” when they pulled over an Irish car using fake UK number plates.

“Today an Irish registered car turned up early to Halloween dressed up as a UK registered vehicle. ANPR(Automatic Number Plate Recognition) took one look at the 'costume' and said:  Ah yes the old 'UK plates on an Irish car' trick,” they stated.

Gardaí said the car was uninsured. “You can change the number plates. You can’t change the database,” they stated.

The car was seized and the driver is due an appearance in court.

Gardai offered a “Halloween tip: Fancy dress is for people not vehicles.”
