Morrissey's Pub in Abbeyleix is known locally and nationally.
A famous Irish pub in Laois has suddenly closed for repairs.
Morrisseys on Main Street in Abbeyleix is a renowned stop for tourists, and beloved by locals with its historic pub and shop interior barely changed in the past 200 years.
Its management announced the closure on October 9.
"Dear customers, our beautiful 250 year old building is unfortunately, a little sicker than we first thought or hoped.
"Until we can get her back on her feet, we need to step aside and let the professionals work their magic.
"They will need a few weeks to mend her and restore her to her former glory.

"In the meantime we ask for your patience and understanding while we get these issues resolved.
"Thank you as always for your continued support, The Morrisseys team."
The owners are also planning a proactive solution to staff retention, by building on staff accommodation behind the premises. That planning application is due for a decision from Laois County Council within days. Read the plan here.
