Suspected burglar arrested within hours in Laois thanks to CCTV

A suspected burglar was tracked down and arrested within hours in Laois last weekend, with the help of CCTV cameras.

Laois Gardaí have confirmed that a male suspect is now in custody following the break-in.

The incident took place in The Birches development in Kilnacourt Woods, Portarlington, at 4pm on Sunday, October 12.

A male broke into an apartment, causing damage to it. 

It is not known if anything was taken, but CCTV cameras helped Laois Gardaí to view footage and quickly identify the man.

A Garda spokesperson has confirmed details to the Leinster Express / Laois Live. 

"Gardaí were able to view CCTV and the man was arrested on Sunday, and is in custody in Abbeyleix Garda Station," they said.

Portlaoise Garda Station currently has no custody facilities as it is undergoing a multi million renovation.
